Tonight I was reading a story to Sam at bedtime about a little Hawaiian fish that didn't like being so colorful. He wished that he would blend into the sand. So, when a magical whale swam by, he made his wish and the was turned into the color of sand. The whale had a feeling the fish really wouldn't like it once it happened, so he told the little fish that if he came back in three days, he could reverse the wish. If it was later than that, he was stuck being the color of sand.
I casually asked Sam if there was anything she wished was different about her appearance. She responds, "yes." As I hold my breath, she says, "I wish I had tan skin like Ella!"
I love her! I love the fact that she doesn't see herself as different. She wears glasses, a Baha hearing device, a cute crooked smile and doesn't have "normal" looking ears, and none of that seems to matter to her!
She wishes she had "tan" skin.
My little girls!
Ella with olive skin that tans as soon as the sun is out and Samantha with beautiful light, sensitive skin!
